Summer Message

2016 has been marked by the most successful MSOTA Spring Conference to date; an enlightening trip to Chicago to AOTA State Association Presidents meeting in which we received the Creative Management Award for the success of our initiatives in 2015; presenting at the State Policy Forum on our advocacy efforts regarding ABA scope of practice; and attending many policy meetings on topics currently affecting our profession.

Among the issues discussed OT in telehealth/telemedicine was the most prominent topic, followed by the need for a licensure compact in which practitioners can practice along state lines. Another “hot topic” included the new OT CPT Evaluation Code changes recently published in July.

Throughout the conference the unofficial theme became apparent: Every occupational therapy practitioner MUST practice within the entire realm of our scope of practice. The need for OTs to evaluate and address cognitive, psychosocial and mental health issues of every patient/client but most importantly document such deficits and interventions has become imperative in the new reimbursement models.
